What Are Fixed Casement Windows?

While both fixed windows and pictures do not open, there is one distinct difference between the two. Fixed windows match the structure of casement windows (hence the name ‘fixed casement windows’), meaning they will have a thicker frame when compared to picture windows.

This thicker frame design is often chosen to match the style of operational windows or to maintain uniformity across different window styles, especially when incorporating similar grille patterns.

Full-Frame Replacement

When you book a full-frame fixed casement window replacement then you can expect the entire frame and existing window to be replaced. This installation method is slightly more invasive than retrofitting, however, is does allow our installers to inspect for rot or mould.

Retrofit Installation

A retrofit fixed casement window installation is a lot more simple, this method will only replace the window sash while preserving the existing frame. For this method, your window frame must be in good condition to prevent future problems.

What’s the difference between fixed casement and casement windows?

A casement window is attached to its frame by one or more hinges on the side. The casement windows from NorthShield Windows and Doors allow for a full opening of 92 inches and 6,5 inches from the framing, which allows for easy cleaning of both sides. Fixed casement windows are just what the word suggests - fixed. They are non-operational and they are usually combined with other windows to make for a better view.

Can you repair a fixed casement window?

For some minor damages, you may be able to repair the window. Depending on the size and type of damage, it may be easier and more cost-effective to replace the entire window. For more information on how to proceed, please contact our team.

What’s the difference between fixed windows and picture windows?

They are both non-operational. Picture windows usually contain thinner frames to maximize the glass pane for a completely uninterrupted view. Fixed frames tend to have thicker, as well as slightly more durable and secure frames since they are often paired with other windows, while picture frames tend to stand on their own.
